David Barnes - Chair Of Governors
My wife and I moved to Fleet in 2010 to start our family. Our eldest daughter attended Heatherside Junior School and our youngest daughter is currently in Year 3. I joined HJS as a Governor in 2019 to support the leadership team in ensuring that the children continue to prosper to their individual full potential in a supportive, safe and well-resourced environment.
I work in a leadership role within sales and marketing in the technology sector and also involved in the Executive Committee of one of Fleets Scout Groups.
Andrew Cottrell
I have lived in Fleet with my wife since 2022. After living in London for the previous 10 years, we have enjoyed becoming part of the local community and participating in various events throughout the local area. I have been an international disputes lawyer for 7 years, with a focus on high value litigation in the energy, shipping, and construction sectors.
As someone who is passionate about the environment, social mobility, and equal opportunities, I was inspired by the initiatives and hard work that Heatherside Junior School puts into these areas - amongst many others - and wanted to assist with its ongoing efforts to provide the best learning environment for its students.
Mark Ogden
I have lived in Fleet for over 30 years and retired as a senior project manager having worked for BT for almost 40 years across a range of roles on local, regional and national government projects. In 2017 I founded a Peer to Peer support network for mental health in BT, growing it from 7 initial volunteers to over 550 supporting BT's global workforce across the UK, Europe and every continent where BT operates. My core management team represented BT, EE, PlusNet, Openreach and BT Ireland and also co-opted in-country leads. I worked on this externally with Combat Stress, Sports Relief, Unilever and an organisation representing over 100 of the world's biggest humanitarian aid organisations. I have 3 adult daughters who all attended Heatherside schools - my eldest trained as a Primary Teacher at Winchester University and has taught in East London, Farnborough and is now Head of Year 1 at a prestigious International school in Singapore giving me an insight into the challenges facing teachers.

Tom Murray
I am a civil servant, currently responsible for a large, multidisciplinary team of analytical and science professionals all working to help the UK reduce waste and increase recycling at the Department for Environment and Rural Affairs. This includes, designing, delivering, monitoring and evaluating national policies and strategies, ensuring they are based on robust evidence and analysis. I am an economist by profession and accredited member of the Government Economic Service, studying it at both undergraduate and doctoral level. I bring strong leadership experience, numeracy skills and an ability to provide independent scrutiny in a supportive manner. I've previous experience as a charity trustee at University of Birmingham's Guild of Students. I have two young children, live very locally to Heatherside Juniors, and have been living in Fleet for the last 4 years.t
Susie Lewington
I am a junior school teacher at Greenfields Junior School, Hartley Wintney and I’ve worked in education for the past 14 years. With this in mind, I have a secure understanding of the education system. I also recognise the challenges that teachers and schools face which I hope will allow me to support with a focus on maintaining excellent outcomes for all pupils.
My eldest son is currently in Year 6 and a daughter in Year 4, with a younger one who will also be attending Heatherside Junior School over the next 8 years. I love being part of the Heatherside community and I firmly believe that the children in our local area deserve excellent educational provision.
Heatherside Juniors is a wonderful school which promotes the best for young people, which I am proud to be a part of.
Ros Dakin
I have lived in Farnborough for 40 years and Fleet for 5 years. I was formally a school teacher, teaching Religious Studies to years 7-13. I also spent 7 years as the Training Resources Developer for a Christian disability charity. I have 3 adult daughters and an adult stepson and stepdaughter. Three of our daughters are disabled, two of them with multiple physical and learning disabilities. I have written numerous magazine articles and 16 books, including 4 A level textbooks and 7 books on various topics around disability and additional needs. I have until very recently been a trustee of a local church. I am passionate about levelling the playing field for children with additional needs and disabilities to enable every one of them to reach their potential. I was very impressed when I toured Heatherside Junior school to see the varied and personalised approaches to children with additional needs. I am excited to be playing an active role here as a governor.
Helen Roberts
I moved to Fleet with my husband, Owen, 25 years ago and my three children have all grown up in Fleet attending local schools. I am a lifelong learner and look forward to supporting the school in its efforts to make a difference. Everyone has a talent and a broad range of experiences gives your child the best chance of realising their potential. A former teacher, I now work for a not-for-profit company redesigning processes and implementing digital systems for everyone to access and use to make life easier. I have a passion for the theatre and enjoy the outdoors with my family and dogs.
Paul Daniels
I am happily married to my lovely wife Angela. We are proud parents of two children: our son, who holds a degree in Politics and contributes to the Ministry of Defence, and our daughter, a Music graduate from the Royal Conservatoire in Birmingham. With a keen eye for fostering innovation and a knack for problem-solving, I am poised to collaborate with the SLT to find creative solutions that elevate the school's overall effectiveness. My experience stems from many years heading up a variety of departments (such as I.T., facilities, H&S, procurement, maintenance, corporate etc.) in a large national UK business.
Celine Gauche
I have lived in Fleet with my husband since 2010 and our son is currently in Year 4 at Heatherside Junior School. Originally from France, I moved to the UK 24 years ago to complete my Master and PhD studies. With a background in chemistry and qualifications as a Chartered Manager, I now lead R&D projects for a global FMCG company and am responsible for multi-million pounds product launches, as well as being an active member of the Women’s Inclusion Network and Mensa.
As a lifelong learner, I am passionate about nurturing people’s natural strengths, promoting equal opportunities, and fostering diversity and inclusivity. I hope my diverse background can bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to the school community, benefiting both the school and its pupils. I’m excited to play an active role in supporting the school and contribute as a parent governor!

Rebecca Campbell
I joined Heatherside Junior School in 2009 as an E.C.T. It very quickly became clear to me that our school is special. The children are polite, well-mannered and very enthusiastic learners. They have a genuine love of learning and enjoy the rich curriculum that Heatherside has to offer. I have been fortunate enough to work in all year groups and have developed my knowledge and understanding of the curriculum across the whole key stage. I have enjoyed every moment of being a part of this school community. The staff always pull together and are truly supportive of one another. We recognise each other’s strengths and celebrate our successes, in both our personal and professional lives. We root for each other. The school culture at Heatherside is one based on trust, respect and enjoyment. It promotes the wellbeing of staff and children. The children develop a growth mindset here that gives them the skills they need to go on and be successful. I have an interest in further developing learning opportunities for our pupils and deepening my own understanding of school leadership.
Anna Clayden
I joined the Governing Body, as a Parent Governor in October 2021. I have lived in Fleet for the past nine years and I have two daughters, one now in Year 7 and one in year 5. I am a Chartered Accountant with over ten years’ experience, initially in practice and subsequently in a FTSE 100 listed company. I am currently taking a career break to raise my young family. Providing a parent’s viewpoint, I look forward to being both challenging and supportive of Heatherside Juniors, to help ensure that every child achieves their full potential.
Luke Mappley
I have two sons, my eldest is currently in Year 2 at Heatherside Infant School and we hope that both he and his younger brother will complete their primary education within Heatherside Schools community. I am extremely passionate about playing an active role within this school and to be able to give something back this is wonderful community over the coming years. As a governor, I look to draw upon the skills, knowledge, and experiences I have gained in my education through to PhD and in my career within a global clinical trials within the pharmaceutical industry. I also volunteer as a STEM Ambassador to promote science education and fostering a culture of curiosity and discovery among young students.
Elaine Greaney (Vice Chair)
I work as an engineering manager in the Space industry. I have one child at Heatherside Junior school and one who left to move to secondary school in 2023. I became a parent governor in 2020.
I am enjoying representing the Heatherside parents and supporting the school which has had such positive impact on my children and our local community.
Lorna Owen
I have been part of the Heatherside Community for the last 24 years as a childminder and with my children having attended both the Infant’s and Junior’s. I have always wanted to become more involved in the schools but unfortunately work restraints and family life have not allowed. Now I feel I am in position to be able to support and learn more about the leadership of the school; and hopefully my knowledge and skills will be of value. I have particular interest around safeguarding and child protection; and to ensure all children have the opportunity to thrive in a safe and caring environment.
